Cordier Auctions' Winter Antique And Fine Art Auction To Feature Toy Soldiers, Royal Commemorative Collection, And More

A massive pair of Chinese ivory and veneer figures, a bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln, and more than 100 lots of toy soldiers will headline the Winter Antique and Fine Art auction at Cordier Auctions on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14 and 15. Among other categories, the sale will feature coins; collectibles and toys; jewelry; silver; ethnographic, Asian, and decorative arts; glass; pottery; furniture; art; and clocks. Other highlights of the sale will include paintings by Erskine Nicol, gold coins including commemoratives, and an early Pennsylvania high chest. The two-day sale will be held in the company's auction house located at 1500 Paxton St. in Harrisburg, Pa.
The coin category will feature gold commemorative sets. An American Eagle two piece gold proof set carries an estimate of $1,600-$1,800. In collectibles and toys, more than 50 lots of Royal commemoratives from the reign of Queen Victoria through Elizabeth II will be sold, including a musical porcelain cigarette box (est. $400-$600). Also offered will be a massive collection of toy soldiers and vehicles including Elastolin and Lineol and a Hausser-Elastolin U.S. Army truck that still has its factory tag (est. $500-$800).
Ethnographic arts will feature Native American tools and pre-Columbian items including a Chavin Cup (est. $2,000-$4,000) and scrimshaw. Asian arts will include a very large pair of ivory veneer deities on foo lions. Depicting Quan Yin and Buddha on a foo lion and qilin respectively, the pair stand 23 inches tall and carry an estimate of $2,000-$4,000.
Offerings in furniture will include a Pennsylvania Chippendale pie crust top tea table (est. $1,500-$2,000) and a 1790 Pennsylvania high chest of drawers (est. $1,000-$2,000). Also offered will be a set of Knoll Harry Bertoia diamond chairs (est. $800-$1,200).
The fine art category will offer a wide selection of lots. Featured paintings will include an oil of an alpine scene by Alois Arnegger (Austrian, 1879-1963) estimated at $2,000-$3,000 and “Watching the Pilferer” by Erskine Nicol (1825-1904) with an estimate of $2,000-$3,000. A print, “Yellow/Orange” by Ellsworth Kelly (American, b. 1923), carries an estimate of $2,000-$3,000. A bronze bust of Abraham Lincoln by George Bissell (American 1839-1920) is expected to bring $4,000-$6,000.
