John Hess Auction Service To Sell Large Collection Of Period Sandstone, Architectural Material, And Antiques On Nov. 1

Grouping Includes Mill Stones, Water Troughs, And Country Antiques

On Saturday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m., John Hess Auction Service will hold a sale at 700 Nottingham Place in Peach Bottom, Pa.
There will be 12 period sandstone water troughs, including a rare inscripted trough by the Brockway Crystal Water Co. and a rare sandstone hemp grinding stone. There will be 10 period mill stones, banjo form splash blocks, an unusual carved sandstone squirrel figure, a rare sandstone tannin grinding stone, a large collection of sandstone landings and steps, a tapered cellar entrance, and also a rare sandstone well cover, just to name a few things.
Other noteworthy items to be offered will include a 1823 date stone from a Lancaster County, Pa., mill, a 20th-century cast iron spread-wing eagle, industrial cast iron gates, a bronze seated dog, a rare circa-1870 bronze urn, and various cast iron urns.
Among the other offerings to be sold will be period redware, a collection of Greg Shooner contemporary redware, a rooster weathervane topper, a Hubley cat, a collection of carved and painted Santa Claus figures by AMG Goody, sleigh bells, Breininger pottery, a collection of duck decoys, primitive country wooden boxes, baskets, and stoneware. Early iron will include a barn star, a pump handle and hinges. A squaw cigar store Indian and a collection of lightening rods will be offered as well.
There will also be architectural corbels from the Lancaster Courthouse, a Lancaster County, Pa., architectural corner cupboard, a 15 drawer counter top apothecary cabinet, a country store counter, bucket benches, a dry sink, farm tables, and an early work table.
