The Great Summer Antiques Expo Will Take Place June 11 And 12

Special Book Seminar Will be Conducted Both Days

May 19, 2016

Ros-Al Antiques Floral and Events have produced antique shows for seven years in northeast Pennsylvania. They are proud to announce the first event scheduled for its 2016 season will be the "Great Summer Antiques Expo" in the newly redesigned Four Points at the Sheraton in Scranton, Pa.
The show will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12. Show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. A special preview party will be held on Friday evening, June 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., which will benefit the Lackawanna Historical Society. Dealers from all over the east coast will be selling a variety of treasures including books, lamps, pottery, textiles, countrywares, art, and vintage jewelry.
The Four Points at the Sheraton is located at 300 Meadow Avenue. Take the Moosic St. exit from Rt. 81 coming south and the River Street exit from Rt. 81 coming north.
Admission will be $5, or $4 with a show card.
A unique seminar "Hunting for Book Treasures" will be conducted by book expert Linda Roller at 1 and 2 p.m. on both days. Roller has been an appraiser of books and documents for over 25 years and a bookseller for over 30 years. She is the owner of the Liberty Book Shop, a general shop with 50,000 books in Avis, Pa. The combination of working both in the general retail market and as a researcher and appraiser of both large and rare collections has given her a wide range of experience within the specialized market.
When hunting for book treasures, a Burmese proverb says, "The more you know, the luckier you get." Whether someone is looking for rare and collectible books to add to an advanced collection, or have recently just discovered the joy of hunting for unusual books, it helps to have some tips and guides to find the special books in an ocean of common books. During the seminar, Roller will show how to decipher the code of first editions, tell the difference between an original and a reprint, and will discuss fakes. Seminar goers will see the difference that condition can make, and will have a chance to see some very special books. And they will also see some great tools that make a "field kit" for the collectible book sleuth.
Roller will provide tips about finding special books, the market for out-of-print books, and a game plan for the books a collector wants to keep and the books they want to sell. Professional advice will be given on what is valuable and what is not and also the best ways to disperse books. Get some insight into the used, collectible, and rare markets, and find the best ways to market books at this seminar. Participants are encouraged to bring a book to discuss. There will not be appraisals, but instead, the seminar will aid in how attendees can assess their books and where to go from there.
Antique appraisal clinics with Maggie Winfield will be available both days of the show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
