Collecting Breininger Pottery: From A To Z

January 7, 2014

The hardbound book titled “Collecting Breininger Pottery: From A To Z” by Paul Locher (Breininger Publications LLC, 2013) is a comprehensive examination of the contemporary redware pottery produced at the Lester Breininger (1935-2011) pottery, which was located in Robesonia, Pa.
The 178-page heavily illustrated full-color book showcases a vast array of work from the operation. Much of the material used for the book is from the author's collection. Started in the 1960s by the Pennsylvania German revivalist potter Breininger, multiple generations of collectors would visit the pottery every August for their annual "Porch Show." The 42nd and last was held in 2011. Various motifs and forms are broken down into their own section in the book, and extensive coverage is given to the "Porch Shows" themselves. They served as social gatherings where friends met, as much as serving as a buying opportunity for the pottery itself.
The book costs $45, plus shipping and handling. To order, write to Breininger Publications LLC at P.O. Box 122 in Robesonia, Pa., 19551 or visit www.breiningerpublications.com.
