Va., cobalt-decorated two-gallon stoneware jar, bearing unique decoration and unrecorded marks; a fine Kentucky inlaid walnut child's chest of drawers; “Sampson,” an important Maltby Sykes (American, 1911-92) oil-on-masonite painting; and a Samuel T. Taylor (American, c. 1806-46) oil-on-canvas folk portrait of 3-year-old Harriet E. Perkins of Louisa Co., Va., dated 1845. A group of three Johnston family (Fairfax Co., Va., c. 1765) oil-on-canvas portraits attributed to John Hesselius (American, 1728-78), depicting George Johnston (1722-67, House of Burgesses, 1750-65), his wife, Sarah McCartney Johnston (b. 1729), and their son, George Johnston Jr. (d. 1777, Washington’s aide-de-camp during the Revolutionary War), will also be sold.
