49th Annual Civil War Living History Weekend And Fall Open House Set For Mullica Hill, N.J.

Shops And Boutiques To Also Host Special Sales And Events Weekend Of Oct. 13 And 14

October 5, 2018

Leaves are starting to fall, and there is a chill in the air. Soon there will be the smell the campfires and sound of canons from the upcoming 49th annual Civil War Living History Weekend and Fall Open House in Mullica Hill, N.J. The weekend event will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. or later on the first day and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day two.
Camp life, skirmishes, living history, and family-friendly fun are trademarks of the special event. Reenactors take on the role of an ancestor who fought in the war to preserve not only family history but to serve as a reminder of one of our nation’s darkest times. "We must remember the mistakes of the past, as to not repeat them again. It is important we teach future generations what not to do," according to Gen. John Houke.
Two camps will be open with medical and weapons displays. Skirmishes are planned throughout the weekend. Live music, food, and many open house special sales will be going on along Main Street. Many shops will offer 10 to 50 percent off in-store specials. The Parsongae, the newest large antique co-op, will hold a fall sale including sweets and treats and feature live music. Across the street at Flossy’s Boutique and Flossy’s Kids, there will be activities with Mona, such as sand art and face painting, and the General Store will have snacks and drinks. Cynplicity Soap will be making old-fashioned tallow and goat milk that fits the Civil War era. And Yellow Garage Antiques will be offering a store-wide sale, serving light refreshments, and hosting a wine tasting event both days. There will also be an 18th birthday celebration at Farm House Designs. Free pumpkin painting will take place from the Pumpkin Patch in the back, and Mademoiselle Macaron will be open with sandwiches, tea, and, of course, macarons. Call for reservations at 443-699-0769 for garden seating.
As the sun sets on Saturday, meet at 7 p.m. at the North Camp located at 39 S. Main St. for a free lantern tour of the camps. A family-friendly tour will end with the evening firing of the canons.
