June 7, 2019

Bodnar’s Auction of Edison, N.J., is proud to offer unique, once-in-a-lifetime items, and comic book collectors will be in for a treat on Thursday, June 20, when Bodnar’s features a single-owner comic book collection, which includes a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15.
The collection of silver age comics will be sold unreserved. Amazing Fantasy #15, best known to comic aficionados as the first time the great Stan Lee introduced Spider-Man, is the featured lot.
The argument over who the most popular superhero of all time would certainly be a lengthy discussion; however, due to his humanity and relatability, the regular kid who got bit by a spider, the “friendly neighborhood” Spider-Man, is one superhero who has captured the hearts and minds of readers around the globe.
Today, Spider-Man is globally recognized, and the story began with his debut appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15, written by Lee and illustrated by Steve Ditko. While this was the final issue of the Amazing Fantasy, it was made clear that Spider-Man would appear monthly in the Amazing Adventures, a series launched during the silver age of comic books that lasted from the 1950s to ‘60s. The introduction of Spider-Man resonated with comic books fans, as the final Amazing Fantasy #15 issue was recognized as Marvel’s highest-selling comic book at the time.
“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is the next big installment in the Marvel cinematic franchise, and the title character remains extremely popular.
This copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 is expected to bring between $20,000 and $30,000 at the June 20 auction.
The Bodnar’s sale will be held at the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center, 97 Sunfield Ave., Edison, N.J.
