Cordier Auctions To Sell Former Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed Estate On Nov. 1 And 15

Militaria Among Highlights Of Both Sessions

October 23, 2020

During Stephen Reed’s 28 years of service as mayor of Harrisburg, Pa., he was known as a skilled politician with a goal to develop business, culture, and recreation in Pennsylvania’s state capital. He was also known as a collector. On Sunday, Nov. 1, the public will get the first glimpse of the extent of Reed’s collection when Cordier Auctions & Appraisals hosts the first of two auctions of the estate collection of the late Stephen R. Reed.
Many are familiar with the former mayor’s interest in the Civil War, American West, and local history; however, Reed’s interests covered a variety of subjects. The auctions will include a vast array of militaria from the Revolutionary War through Operation Desert Storm, baseball collectibles from local and national teams, vintage and modern political memorabilia, African and Ethnographic arts, local collectibles, art, and a large collection of historic ephemera in addition to Southwestern, Western, and Native American artifacts and collectibles.
“It really is an honor to be entrusted with the Reed estate,” said David Cordier, founder and owner of Cordier Auctions. “Mayor Reed was a somewhat controversial figure in Harrisburg, but the significant progress to Harrisburg during his tenure speaks to his success as a leader.” The second auction is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 15. Both will be online only.
The Nov. 1 auction will be available for online viewing and pre-bids on Monday, Oct. 26.
