Haddon Heights To Have Special Memorial Day Display
Memorial Day started shortly following the end of the Civil War when communities began honoring the fallen with gravesite tributes. The date of May 30 was selected in 1868 to observe this solemn occasion. Originally termed Decoration Day because the graves were decorated with flags and flowers, in the early 20th century it began to be referred to as Memorial Day. Now military members lost in any conflict are honored. Memorial Day became an official federal holiday in 1971.
Haddon Heights Antiques Centers special sales display will pay tribute to various branches of service through ribbons, patches, medals, flags, books, and ephemera. It will be rounded out with patriotic objects and china and glass in red, white, and blue.
