High-End Art Exceeds Expectations In Locati's Online Sale

A Japanese Mixed Metal Plaque Brings $55,000

June 22, 2018

Locati's May sale was comprised of nearly 500 lots, which included a wide range of material from high end fine art to rare Chinese porcelain. The online only sale proved that the market responds to fresh-to-the-market antiques and fine art.
"This is exactly the type of sale we love, interesting objects in many categories, including Americana and Continental antiques," said Michael Locati, co-owner of Locati LLC.
Among the highlights was a Japanese mixed metal plaque that sold for $55,000. "The Japanese mixed metal plaque was a huge surprise for us,” said Locati. “This shows that the international market is paying attention to our monthly sales."
Other highlights included an American War of 1812 military sabre sword which realized $6,750; an Antonio Martino (American 1902-88) oil-on-canvas, which realized $9,750; and a Paul Henry (Ireland 1876-1958) oil-on-board, which sold for a strong $37,000.
"We were thrilled that the Paul Henry did so well,” mentioned Locati. “Our reserve was $8,000, and the estimate was $20,000 to $30,000, so $37,000 was a great result for our consignor."
