Exciting One-Day Sale With 800 Lots Expected To Yield Great Results

March 22, 2019

Andrew Ford of Sarasota Estate Auction recently announced that the collections for the upcoming Sunday, March 31, auction will include several outstanding pieces with great variety for collectors, including fine art, outstanding furniture and select silver.
Early on his list of highlights is a watercolor-and-pencil-on-paper attributed to Edward Hopper, signed “Edward Hopper” and “Gloucester 1956.” It is a previously unrecorded painting by the artist. The watercolor depicts the Orthodox Congregational Church in Gloucester, Mass.
A period Chippendale mahogany reverse serpentine slant-front desk attributed to William King, circa 1775, Salem, Mass., will be offered. The brasses and escutcheons have been replaced, and the interior small drawers once had bale handles but have been replaced with pulls.
There will also be a Tiffany & Co. sterling tea set in scarce Chrysanthemum pattern, engraved "Presented to D.B Robinson by the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company 1896." Signed “Tiffany & Co.” 925-1000 sterling silver, approx. 203 troy oz., Tiffany & Co.'s Chrysanthemum pattern is one of the most magnificent and celebrated sterling silver designs of the 19th century. The pattern was designed by Charles T. Grosjean (1841-88) in 1880. Grosjean was responsible for several innovative designs for Tiffany during the last quarter of the 19th century. The pattern was patented on Sept. 21, 1880, and represents flowing shells, flowers, and foliage of the Rococo Revival style.
Additional paintings in the auction include works by Charles Francois Daubigny and Thomas Sully. The Sully piece features a sitter he painted more than once.
Other items will include a coin-operated nickelodeon and several Swiss and French music boxes. There is also an outstanding selection of Chinese Export from the Qing Dynasty. A late addition to the sale is a collection of equestrian paintings by several listed American artists.
The sale will be held live in the gallery located at 6030 N. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, Fla., and also on www.liveauctioneers.com.
