S.H. Jemik’s Current Mail Bid Sale

S.H. Jemik’s Mail Bid sale of Paper Americana/Ephemera is available from the company for $1 for postage. The sale includes 500 lots that cover the gamut – from stocks and bonds to modern movie posters. There are items valued from $10 to $500 in the sale.
An International Mercantile Co. 100 Share stock certificate is estimated at $75. This company was owned by J.P. Morgan’s White Star Lines which owned the Titanic. Another capital stock is for the American Dredging Company and is valued at $150. There are also Railroad, Mining, and Oil Company stocks.
Expositions and Fairs offerings include items from The Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia of 1876, the Paris Universelle Exposition of 1878, and The New York World’s Fair of 1939-40. There are also items from the fairs held between these, including a draft from The Denver Expo of 1887, valued at only $15. Other large and small Fairs are represented.
There is a section of Philatelic covers, stamps, and Cinderella’s. Railroad Street RPO cancelled postcards, and Collection and Distribution Wagon covers available. Local stamps are represented by several local covers.
An interesting large certificate from the Women’s Christian Temperence Union of Nebraska, from 1909 bestows Life Membership. Another certificate is an Appointment of a Coast Guard Lt. from the office of President Harry Truman, signed by James Forestal, Secretary of the Navy. Featured also is a large Postmaster Appointment from President Grover Cleveland, signed by him. It’s valued at $500.
There’s a small section of booklets and books including Gray’s Pharmaceutical Quiz Compound of 1919; plus James Whitcomb Riley’s An Old Sweetheart of Mine, and a wide assortment of documents from the 1800’s including court judgments and Nautical bills of lading.
There are sections of military paper, Civil War to recent, advertising, and graphic prints. Checks, drafts, and notes include a check signed by cartoonist Walt Kelly, creator of Pogo, that should realized $125 or more, plus many bank drafts from the 1800’s. There are political paper items and trade cards, magazines, and a small photography section as well as a group of nautical postcards from the Pacific Mail Co.
