The Old Morgantown Glass Collectors' Guild Holds Annual Convention

June 16, 2016

The Old Morgantown Glass Collectors' Guild held its annual convention, including meetings, banquet, and seminars on June 4, 5, and 6, in Morgantown, W. Va. The highlight of the weekend was the banquet followed by the annual auction. This year the auction was special as it included items recently purchased by the guild from a former employee of the Morgantown Glass Works. Many items were in their original boxes and wrapped in their original wrapping paper.
The auction items included a rare #71 Jupiter lamp, a Continental Line with Italian base, two "Ockner" Crinkle water jugs, a Patrick red handled basket, and an Ivy Ball vase.
Enthusiasts and collectors of American glass from various eras are encouraged to join the guild. Membership includes a quarterly newsletter titled “TOPICS,” which contains previews of upcoming events, pertinent information about Morgantown glass, and a review of ebay auctions. Annual dues are $25.
The Old Morgantown Glass Collectors' Guild, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1990 with the purpose of preserving the history and the glassware produced by the Morgantown Glass Works Inc., Economy Glass Company and Morgantown Glassware Guild Inc. The group is striving to reopen its Morgantown Museum.
