Two-Day Online-Only Decorative Arts Auction Planned For Pook & Pook On Aug. 29 And 30
Over 1,500 Lots Will Be Sold
Pook & Pook buyers have come to expect a vast assortment of early American furniture and folk art from the Pennsylvania auction house, and this decorative arts auction will not disappoint. Items will include velvet theorems, folk portraits, fraktur, primitive landscapes, silhouettes, needlework, and pocket-sized portraits. Near countless lots of textiles will be on offer, with dozens of quilts, coverlets, and hooked rugs. An impressive collection of American pewter is a highlight, as well as a selection of painted country Americana, Native American basketry, redware, and stoneware. Items on offer from further abroad include Gaudy Dutch and Gaudy Welsh porcelain, Oriental carpets, blue and white Staffordshire, and Chinese porcelain and jade.
Collections from various estates will comprise a large portion of the two-day sale. A large consignment came from Santa Fe, N.M., and items from estates across Chester, Bucks, Berks, and Lancaster counties will also be sold.
Among the whimsical collections of everyday early American objects include a sign painters toolkit, a Kentucky bluegrass seeder, and a Sheraton shaving mirror. The assortment of objects on offer is endlessly varied, such as a Regency mahogany cheese wheel, a sterling silver muffineer, and a green painted squirrel cage, all just a sampling of the eclectic and intriguing mix of objects in the auction.
