Whiskey Collectibles Highlight First Solo Auction For Ohio Auctioneer

Online Auction Will Take Place On April 6

March 22, 2019

Bottoms up! A unique collection of whiskey-related stoneware, glassware, and advertising will be offered in an online auction conducted by Andrew Richmond on Saturday, April 6. Featured in the event are stoneware advertising and miniature jugs, pre-Prohibition shot glasses and bar bottles, and advertising signs and tip trays. Other items for sale range from an Anna Pottery pig flask to railroad silver plate and dinnerware, as well as snuff boxes and nautical-themed china. There are no reserves, and all items will sell to the highest bidders.
"It's an impressive selection of material, primarily from a single collector in the Midwest," said Richmond. "Whiskey and other liquor-related advertising continue to be highly sought by buyers. And that's just one component of the sale."
The sale will feature approximately 500 lots, including more than three dozen one-gallon stoneware jugs advertising whiskey or liquor distillers and distributors. More than 70 miniature stoneware jugs with stamped or scratched advertisements promoting liquor makers and sellers, and over 100 pre-Prohibition advertising shot glasses. There is a collection of pre-Prohibition advertising bar bottles, more than four dozen glass historical flasks, and a collection of figural flasks, including an Anna Pottery pig. There is a collection of tip trays with whiskey advertising and a large collection of snuff boxes in a variety of materials, including scrimshaw and horn. Also, a collection of silver plate and china from the Pennsylvania Railroad, a collection of B&O Railroad pattern china (antique and vintage), and a collection of American Marine pattern china will be offered.
The auction will be Richmond's first solo sale. He has more than 10 years of experience in the auction industry, having served as a specialist and auctioneer at two Ohio firms, Garth's Auctions in Columbus and Cowan's Auctions in Cincinnati.
"Although I am not getting back into the auction business full-time, I am looking for opportunities, such as this, for interesting and desirable collections that could make a fun auction," stated Richmond.
The theme of the sale fits perfectly with Richmond's interest in Americana. He handles a variety of quality American antiques through his antiques business, the Ohio Company Antiques & Art, under whose name this auction will be run. He is also the president of Wipiak Consulting & Appraisals, which specializes in appraisals and advising for museums and private collectors across the United States.
The online catalog for the April 6 auction is available at www.ohiocompanyantiques.com. The auction will begin at noon on Live Auctioneers. Online bidders may leave bids prior to the sale, or bid live.
