Memorabilia And Original Art From Disney's "Alice In Wonderland" On View

New Exhibit Open At Geppi's Entertainment Museum

April 28, 2016

The new “Alice in Wonderland” exhibit at Geppi's Entertainment Museum (GEM) in Baltimore, Md., showcases more than 200 pieces of Alice memorabilia from the collection of Matt Crandall. The art and sculptures are displayed in multiple sections of the museum, starting in the entryway, then wrapping through the main halls and into exhibit rooms.
Crandall's collection includes animation cels, design storyboards and model sheets from the famous 1951 Walt Disney production “Alice in Wonderland,” as well as original drawings and sketches. It also includes Rotoscope pictures that were used as a base beneath the animated art created for the original movie, or which may have inspired scenes in the film. Prototype model art, coloring books, promotional posters, Big Golden Book art, designs for Disney rides, magazine illustrations, advertisements, and newspaper clippings are among the collection's other fascinating additions.
A featured aspect of the Alice exhibit is international movie posters. Many styles of artwork are represented, with text in Czechoslovakian, Danish, Australian, German, Italian, Swedish, Belgian, French, and Argentina.
On the three-dimensional side, there are sculptures from several periods in Alice's history, along with busts and marketing pieces that feature a variety of characters.
"Alice in Wonderland is a timeless Disney classic," said Melissa Bowersox, president of Geppi's Entertainment Museum. "We're honored to have this exhibit in Baltimore and at GEM."
The Matt Crandall collection of “Alice in Wonderland” art and memorabilia will be on display at GEM through the beginning of October.
GEM is located at Camden Yards, 301 W. Camden Street, Baltimore, Md. It is just a short walk from Inner Harbor.
