A Plethora Of Judaica Barry Slosberg To Hold Major Sale On April 30

April 25, 2025

From Moshe Dayans eye patch and signed photo to a 100 ozt. Sterling silver Torah Crown, Barry S. Slosberg, a respected auctioneer in Philadelphia, has been selected to conduct a public auction on behalf of a relocating and downsizing synagogue and a prominent Philadelphia collector of Judaica. This large sale of 400-plus items will include eight Torah Crowns, 17 pairs of Rimonim (Torah finials), 25 Torah breastplates, numerous yads, spice towers, Kiddush cups, menorahs, Etrog boxes in Sterling silver by Bezalel, Pal Bel, 19th century Russia and more. Of the many mezuzahs there are two that stand out. A 19th century Italian silver one of unique form and style and a modern silver and crystal one by Yaakov Agam. To stay alert during services there are vintage groggers and shofars. The 12 tribes of Israel are featured in some of the 16 stained and leaded glass windows. Some antique items include a 34-inch bronze sculpture by Raphael Schwartz, a 19th century brass hanging oil lamp and a very rare 1870 Franco-Prussian War Kol Nidre scarf depicting soldiers on the battlefield in prayer. Tzedakah boxes include vintage lithographed tin and contemporary glass. Also included are 19th and 20th century books, paintings, and graphics. To assist those in prayer there are tefillin, tallit and antique prayer books and Haggadahs illustrated by Arthur Szyk, Saul Raskin and Jacob Steinhardt. If jewelry is a category of interest, there are gold and silver Chai and Mogen David necklaces, plus pins, medals and amulets. For any upcoming weddings, there are late 19th century elaborate figural repouss bride and grooms Sterling silver belt and buckles. Collectors of autographs and other ephemera will be delighted by the abundance of signed photos, correspondence and covers. David Ben Gurion, Chaim Weitzman, Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan, Yitzhak Rabin, Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, Shimon Peres, Abba Eban, Elie Wiesel and even Harry S. Truman are a sampling of the material in the sale. This auction will be held online on Wednesday, April 30, beginning at 10 a.m. To register or view the catalog, visit www.bssauction.com or Live Auctioneers, Invaluable, or AuctionZip.
