Potter & Potter Auctions is pleased to announce the results of its 490-lot sale held on May 7. All prices noted include the auction houses 20 percent buyers premium. The top lot in this auction was a Jennings $1 Sun Chief Nevada Club slot machine. Estimated at $3,000 to $5,000, it realized $36,000. This three-reel machine was produced in Chicago in the 1950s. It featured red front panels, its original Nevada Club mascot emblem (Nevada Bob), and a Nevada Club The Bonus Club marquee. This rare, hard-to-find example took silver dollar coins. A Watling five-cent Rol-A-Tor Slot Machine was estimated at $2,000 to $4,000 and traded hands at $22,800. This very rare, three-reel machine was made in Chicago in the 1940s and featured a classic cast cornucopia design and bright yellow paint and included its original back door, keys, and cash box. A 20th-century Duffner & Kimberly bronze floor lamp was estimated at $1,000 to $2,000 and delivered $28,800. This unmarked fixture was detailed with a heavy, decoratively cast bronze base with five sockets and a leaded glass shade with a floral pattern. It measured 70 inches tall, with a shade diameter of 24 inches. A 20th-century Duffner & Kimberly leaded glass lamp shade, estimated at $300 to $500, realized $22,800. This hanging, domed shade had a floral motif and was primarily rendered in green and blue glass and was sold with a two-socket hanging lamp fixture on long brass chain. An archive of ephemera related to the late 19th/early 20th-century chocolate industry was estimated at $300 to $500 and made $5,280. It was housed in a black vinyl binder and included 90 items representing the Hawley & Hoops (New York), E. Guittard & Co. (San Francisco), and Ghirardellis (San Francisco) candy companies. Materials included blotters, labels and packaging, trade cards, hanging advertisements, letterhead and documents, and other paper materials. We were delighted by the exceptional, possibly record-setting results on the Jennings slot machines. Enthusiasm was high throughout the day as we saw competitive bidding on advertising, ephemera, and antiques as well, summed up Joe Slabaugh of Potter & Potter Auctions.
