Antique Airplane Donated To Museum Piper Aircraft Museum In Lock Haven, Pa., Is Recipient

Airplanes may not commonly be thought of as antiques, but that is not the case in the small plane recently donated to the Piper Aircraft Museum in Lock Haven, Pa. On display with numerous others during theSentimental Journey Fly-In, held June 18 to 23 at the William T. Piper Memorial Airport,her familys 1946 Piper Cub was given by Mrs. Theresa Moretti of Cranston, R.I., and was flown from that northeastern state when spring weather arrived in May by museum personnel, making one stop to refuel. The 77-year-old antique plane is on display on the museums first floor at 1 Piper Way. Mrs. Moretti, along with the museums president and the pilots, made the trip to Rhode Island. The Piper Museum preserves the history of the Piper Aircraft Corporation that was headquartered in Lock Haven from 1937 to 1984.There are 21 aircraft that were built by Piper in the museum collection.Some 30 models of Piper airplanes were produced at the plant, with a total of nearly 75,000 total aircrafts built there before the company consolidated its operations in Vero Beach, Fla., in 1984, which is where the firm is still making Pipers today. The museum showcases the history, memorabilia, and airplanes that are the legacy of founder William T.
