Antiques Appraisal Event Scheduled For April 27 Zelmas Emporium To Host Benefit For New Oxford Area Historical Society
April 19, 2024
On Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the New Oxford Area Historical Society (NOAHS) and Zelmas Emporium will join together to co-host an exciting benefit event, New Oxfords Antiques Appraisal Faire, at the historic Livingston Shoe Factory, located at 11 Water St. (just off West Golden Lane), New Oxford, Pa. Since May 2020, this historic commercial location has been the home of one of New Oxfords leading businesses, Zelmas Emporium. Given the role antiques businesses have played in New Oxfords commercial history, this newly envisioned antique appraisal event will build on the towns reputation and bring together a cadre of trained appraisers. In this way, event attendees will have the chance to learn about the history and value of the treasures they bring and enjoy the days festivities at the same time. Attendees may bring up to three items for appraisal. Each item appraisal will be assessed a $15 fee, with proceeds being donated to the New Oxford Area Historical Society. No preregistration is required, and cash, debit, or credit card will be accepted. Appraisals are informal and should not be used for insurance purposes. Neither sales nor negotiations will be allowed onsite. Persons must be able to carry their items for appraisal. A set of event FAQs will be published on the hosts websites and Facebook pages, with suggestions on types of items to bring for appraisal and suggestions for handling large items. Entrance to the event will be along Golden Lane at the Emporiums loading dock area, directly opposite the event parking on West Golden Lane, just west of the railroad crossing. Signs and attendants will be on-hand to assist customers with parking. For those who wish to bring items for appraisal, registration and ticketing will occur at the Welcome Center located on the loading dock. After which, parties will be directed to the appropriate area and appraiser. If appraisal lines are long, persons are welcome to browse inside Zelmas but should return their items to their vehicle instead of bringing them into the store. Announcements over the sound system will notify customers of approximate wait-times. Zelmas Emporium will also be open for normal customer shopping. In addition to appraisals, entertainment and food trucks are being arranged, and NOAHS will exhibit some of the artifacts it holds in its collection that feature the shops, merchants, businesses and places of employment that have resided in New Oxford and surrounding area since its founding. The loading dock area and main floor of Zelmas are both handicapped accessible, and an exterior ADA restroom trailer will be onsite. Though no designated handicapped parking exists, parking attendants will help to offer closest, most convenient vehicle parking for those with a handicap registration to the extent possible.
