Lots To Love At Locati's

Robert Indiana Silkscreen Of Iconic “LOVE” Image Sells For $5,500

June 24, 2022

Locati’s May online sale concluded on May 15 with the headline lot, a silkscreen by Robert Indiana of the iconic “LOVE” image (from the Book of Love portfolio), achieving $5,500 against a $4,000-6,000 estimate.
A generous offering of Americana was targeted by collectors and dealers, much of it paint decorated, with a good American painted chest of drawers achieving $2,100. Soon thereafter, a pair of Kangxi porcelain vases achieved $3,400.
"I think the market for Americana is regaining ground,” said owner Michael Locati. “We are seeing interest from unexpected places; buyers both locally and across the United States are targeting the best examples. In many ways, I think the iconic ‘LOVE’ image has itself become a piece of modern Americana, which is something interesting to think about. The market for Asian arts continues to be strong for us as well.”
Locati holds monthly online-only sales through LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable, and Bidsquare. Bidders are encouraged to visit the company’s Pineville, Pa., facility for preview. Additionally, Locati hosts free appraisal events on the second Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Prices reported do not include a buyer’s premium.
