Papermania Plus: A Unique Nostalgic Collectible Extravaganza

August 13, 2015

The 68th Papermania Plus Antique Paper Show will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22 and 23, at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. This long-running popular event marks its 40th anniversary year in 2015.
Show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission will be $8 per person. On Sunday, senior citizens and college students will be admitted at half price. Also on the second day, guest appraiser Gary Sohmers of the PBS show “Antiques Roadshow” will be available to appraise pop culture items, various collectibles and toys.
Considered the largest of its kind in the northeast, this show boasts 140 quality dealers who showcase nearly everything from A to Z: advertising, books, comics, prints, maps, magazines, posters, stamps, buttons, sheet music, vintage valentines, signs, postcards, photography, military ephemera, ribbons, insignias, and more. Papermania Plus has run continuously since 1975 at the same location (the XL Center was formerly the Hartford Civic Center).
“Papermania is a fun show for the serious collector and for young people at heart,” said show producer Gary Gipstein. Buy Back a Memory continues to be the show’s theme. “A show of this sort is an invitation to an old-fashioned swap session,” said Gipstein. Unique paper collectibles, such as family games, postcards, prints and rare books are available at this show, and prices can start as low as 50 cents. Popular material to be offered includes Mickey Mouse and Disney characters, political buttons and posters, movie star and comic premiums, 19th century broadsides, advertising trade cards, celebrity autographs, early railroad ephemera, train schedules, stereo view cards and stock certificates, to just name a few things.
The following Papermania Plus show is scheduled for Jan. 9 and 10, 2016.
