Bodnars Auction House is thrilled to announce the resounding success of the highly anticipated Kevin Smith Comic Art Sale, held on Sept. 27. The auction, curated in collaboration with filmmaker and pop culture icon Kevin Smith, achieved remarkable results, setting new benchmarks in the world of comic art auctions. The Kevin Smith Comic Art Sale, hosted by Bodnars Auction House, presented collectors and enthusiasts with an opportunity to acquire exclusive comic art pieces directly linked to Kevin Smiths creative journey. With an extraordinary selection of original artwork, sketches, and signed pieces, the auction captivated audiences from around the globe. Bodnars reported more than 3,000 registered bidders from 40 countries, with over 75,000 hits on the catalog that was broadcast live on Bodnars Auction website, Liveauctioneers, Invaluable, Auction Zip, and Bidspirit. The sales live feed was also broadcasted on Bodnars Auction Facebook page, where if missed, it can be viewed again. Smith was in the house talking about each piece while they sold. It was like a live podcast with bidding. He reminisced about each piece, how he obtained it, and how the stories came to be. At one point on all platforms over 2,000 people were watching the live event. There were 176 lots, sold with no reserves, and the total gross was $458,422 including the buyers premium. The auction featured an impressive assortment of original comic art from Kevin Smiths personal collection. Art enthusiasts eagerly bid on iconic pieces, including original artwork from Daredevil, Batman, Preacher, Sandman, and Green Arrow. The extraordinary craftsmanship and significance of these works drew spirited bidding, resulting in everything flying past its high estimates. Every lot also came with a COA from Bodnars Auction autographed by Smith. A few highlights included the original comic book art from Frank Millers Daredevil Issue #161, page #22, pencils by Frank Miller, inker Klaus Janson, including multiple images of Daredevil and Bullseye in a fight scene. The artwork sold for $79,650 against a $20,000-$40,000 estimate. Original comic book cover art for Daredevil Issue #8 of the Marvel Knights series, also cover to Marvel Knights Omnibus, pencils by Joe Quesada, inker Jimmy Palmiotti, double signed by artists, with images of Daredevil and Spiderman, sold for $27,140. Original comic book art for DC/Vertigo Preacher Issue #9, page 14, signed art by Steve Dillon, sold for $10,620 against $750-$1,200, and original comic book trade paperback cover art, mixed media color for Comico Comics - Mage Book Vol. 2 from 1985, signed art by Matt Wagner, realized $20,060, which Bodnar believes is a record for the artist at auction. The sale ended strong with the last two lots selling for well above their estimates, including DC Starman #33 original colored cover art by Tony Harris, framed. Dated 1997, the image of Batman with Starman sold for $8,850. Original art for Daredevil Issue #5, pages 8 and 9, the Marvel Knights series, pencils by Joe Quesada, inker Jimmy Palmiotti, signed by Kevin Smith, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Joe Quesada, images showing Daredevil and Mephisto, sold for $10,620 against a $2,000-$4,000 estimate.
