Castle Grayskull Shatters Collectible Toy Records, Bringing $209,410 LCG Auctions In Louisiana Held Summer Premier Auction On Aug. 24

September 26, 2025

Fueled by demand for vintage toys, superhero prototypes, and early Apple technology, the LCG Auctions Summer Premier Auction closed Aug. 24 with a record-breaking $850,202 in total sales. With 154-lots sold, the Louisiana-based auction house is known for vintage toys and pop-culture collectibles. Leading the way was the Masters of the Universe Castle Grayskull playset (AFA 90), which cost $24.99 when it retailed in 1983, selling for $209,410, setting the all-time record for any production toy across all franchises. Another record-setting highlight was a 1978 Kenner Luke Skywalker with Telescoping Lightsaber (AFA 90), which realized $161,458, a new record for any production action figure. Known as the finest Luke Skywalker figure in existence, the piece originally retailed for $1.86 when Kenner introduced Star Wars figures in 1978. Also making headlines was the 1982 Kenner Superman Pitch Piece Prototype, which sold for $97,691, setting the record for any superhero action figure ever sold. This historic piece was originally used in Kenners presentation to DC Comics as they pursued the rights to produce superhero figurines. Beyond toys and action figures, LCG Auctions is also known for specializing in the category referred to as vintage technology, specifically Apple products. A factory-sealed 2007 Apple iPhone 4GB First Release (CAS 80+) fetched $88,810, the highest sale for this model in nearly two years. This example marked the first time a professionally graded iPhone utilizing advanced CT-scan authentication technology has been offered on the market. The sports collectibles industry has been making a lot of headlines lately, but the results of this auction confirm what weve been seeing over the past several years.Demand for the most iconic toys and pop-culture artifacts has never been stronger, said Mark Montero, founder of LCG Auctions. Iconic items produced in the millions, that nearly every kid had, if preserved, have proven to be blue chip assets. A new bar has been set. From record-setting action figures to prototypes and vintage tech, collectors are pushing values to historic levels, continued Montero. LCG Auctions was founded in 2021 by a team of vintage toy collectors and experts. It is fully licensed and bonded by the state of Louisiana (License #: LA AB-551). The complete catalog with final prices realized is available at www.LCGAuctions.com.
