Early Historical Photographs Come To Auction

By Karl Pass - May 15, 2026

An extensive collection of original Abraham Lincoln CDV cards and tintypes is coming to auction on Thursday, May 21, at Embassy Auctions International. Many of the early photographs are by Mathew Brady and other well known photographers. Other original Civil War CDVs include General Ulysses S. Grant and other Union officers. Several Civil War era books are in this collection. Also in photo category is a CDV of General Robert E. Lee and a rare tintype of General George Custer produced two weeks before his death at the Little Big Horn. The diverse sale has far more than the Lincoln historical photos. Among the offerings is a grouping of African tribal figures and art, a wide range of Native American items, Netsukes, fossils, and more. There is a collection of Native and Tribal stone implements, weapons, wood carvings, and masks. This includes pre-Columbian pottery and vessels, fossils, Asian arts, ancient Egyptian, Roman metal and bronze figures, Bronze age pottery bowls, Japanese netsukes, bronze religious icons, scrimshaw, unusual firearms, and Southwestern U.S. polished gemstone belt buckles. Embassy Auctions International is located at 5336 Mine Road, Kinzers, Pa. For additional information, call 717-442-8529.
