From Exhibition To Auction, Fine Art Takes Center Stage At Alderfer Auction
Two-Day Online Collectors Sale Set For Aug. 12 And 13

Alderfer Auction is hosting its two-day online collectors auction of curated selections of museum exhibited fine art, jewelry and silver, automobiles, couture, furnishings and rugs from the collections of Edward W. Driscoll, Dr. James T. Demopolous, Thomas Bateman and Wesley Emmons, among others. Day one will be Wednesday, Aug. 12, and feature fine jewelry, silver and couture. Day two is Thursday, Aug. 13, with fine art, dcor and furnishings. The sale begins both days at 10 a.m. Fine jewelry on day one will cover the color spectrum from the neutral palette of diamonds to the subtle and brilliant shades of aquamarine and amethyst. Nearly 100 pieces of beautifully crafted silver follows, with a monumental sterling silver jeweled chess set and Bateman, Storr, Jensen & Tiffany and Wang Hing silver, to name a few. Couture and designer wares include designers such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci and Judith Leiber. Day two will kick off with automobiles ranging from the collectible International pick-up truck to the sporty Nissan 370Z Roadster and Porsche 911 SC Targa. Fine period furnishings, tall case clocks, and hand-knotted rugs from Serapi, Heriz and Isfahan will be sold. This auction features several museum quality examples of works by coveted Pennsylvania Impressionists previously exhibited at the James Michener Art Museum. The artists include George Sotter, Charles Hargens, Henry B. Snell, John Terelak, W.E Baum, Ranulph Bye, and L. Campbell. Alderfer Auction is proud to feature the collection of the late Edward and Nancy Driscoll. A nationally known builder and construction manager, Driscoll was the retired chairman and chief executive officer of the L.F. Driscoll Co., where he worked for more than 50 years. L.F. Driscoll has built some of the most iconic buildings in Philadelphia, including the three tallest skyscrapers, One Liberty Place, The Comcast Center, and The Comcast Technology Center. Other notable landmarks include world class sports arenas such as the Wells Fargo Center and Citizens Bank Park, as well as cultural landmarks, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and The Barnes Museum. The collection comes to Alderfers from the family home Driscoll had built in Chestnut Hill. It features a large collection of American furniture and Chinese Export porcelain. It was primarily purchased from prominent New York City and Philadelphia dealers. Highlights include a Chippendale secretary, a New England reverse serpentine chest of drawers, a Philadelphia Chippendale carved side chair and several antique room size rugs.
