Haddon Heights Antiques Center To Have Black History Month Display
February 18, 2022
In honor of Black History Month, longtime Haddon Heights Antiques Center dealer Michael Shreve will be sharing items from his personal collection in a special display that he is calling Achievements in Black America. The display will showcase many items ephemeral in nature that are related to famous Black musicians and performers, writers, athletes, and political figures. There will be books, magazines, playbills, posters, and pinback buttons. Luminaries will include Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Muhammed Ali, the Supremes, and others. Shreve will also include some personal family memorabilia such as his parents 1942 wedding portrait and a postcard from the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum in Ontario, Canada, that is on the property where his family lived in the 19th century. Their cabin was a stop on the Underground Railroad and is, understandably, a point of great pride for him. Items in the Black History portion of the special display are not for sale, but there will be a section of the case devoted to special antique and vintage items that make wonderful Valentine gifts and are available for purchase. All visits to the Haddon Heights Antiques Center are a great way to step back in time and enjoy an escape from the hectic pace of modern life. This multi-dealer shop, which recently celebrated 29 years in business, is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Fridays. It is located at 531 Clements Bridge Road where Barrington and Haddon Heights meet at the railroad tracks in Barrington, N.J. For directions or other information, call 856-546-0555.
