Haddon Heights To Have Special Memorial Day Display
May 20, 2022
For some, Memorial Day ushers in the summer season, but it is a holiday associated with patriotism and honoring the military. With the the latter in mind, the Haddon Heights Antiques Center is proud to offer a red, white, and blue special sales display with emphasis on the military and the sacrifices many have made during the nations history. Memorial Day started shortly following the end of the Civil War when communities began honoring the fallen with gravesite tributes. The date of May 30 was selected in 1868 to observe this solemn occasion. Originally termed Decoration Day because the graves were decorated with flags and flowers, in the early 20th century it began to be referred to as Memorial Day. Now military members lost in any conflict are honored. Memorial Day became an official federal holiday in 1971.
