Pook & Pooks Americana Auction kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, with nearly 500 lots of beautiful antique furniture and impressive selections of fine and folk art crossing the block in their one-day extravaganza. As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, in-person bidding will be limited and by reservation only, but Pook & Pook has bolstered their phone bidding accommodations and is offering online bidding across multiple platforms. In addition, a gallery exhibition, also by appointment, has been expanded to include two additional preview days. Pook & Pook, located in Downingtown, Chester County, Pa., is known for offering impressive early American furniture and antiques, and with the stunning collections featured in their upcoming auction, this sale will be no different. Featured among a collection from the Winesburg, Ohio, estate of Pauline Kasserman is an array of painted furniture, a tiger maple Dutch cupboard and a wonderful tall-case clock, expertly inlaid with tulip vines, eagles and more. The June 20 auction will also feature a very good collection of Mocha, which includes a rare gemel jug that is sure to draw attention (est. $5,000-$8,000). Among the other highlights are two large collections of Historical Blue Staffordshire, the estate of Audrey Nichols, and more. Not to be missed are a remarkable cigar store Indian maiden attributed to Samuel Robbs workshop (est. $20,000-30,000) and an excellent Soap Hollow chest of drawers signed by John Sala (est. $12,000-18,000). This sale will not be without its fair share of breathtaking art. Taking two of the top slots at the sale are an oil-on-board painting by Sanford Gifford (est. $20,000-30,000) and an abstract oil-on-paper painting by Hans Hofman (est. $15,000-20,000). Along with those, expect to see expansive examples of Wyeth family art, including both prints and collotypes. As always, all manner of antique furniture, pottery, porcelain, textiles, fraktur, and more will cross the auction block. The auction will close out with an offering of fine rugs, including a stunning Isfahan pictorial rug (est. $800-$1,200).
