Marquis de Lafayette Returns Historian To Present Lecture On May 18

In 1824-25, American Revolutionary War hero the Marquis de Lafayette visited the United States of America for a Grand Tour of all 24 states. On Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m., Historic Rock Ford in Lancaster, Pa., will host historian Elizabeth M. Reese as she presents a lecture Marquis de Lafayette Returns, which follows Lafayettes tour, highlighting the important people, events, and legacy of Americas favorite fighting Frenchman. Reese is a historian in the Washington, D.C., area, who has spent over a decade as an interpreter at historic sites on the East Coast. Her work has appeared in TIME, the New York Times, and C-SPAN. She is currently the senior manager of Public Programsand Interpretation at Woodlawn & Pope-Leighey House in Alexandria, Va.Reeses first book, Marquis de Lafayette Returns: A Tour of Americas National Capital Region,was published in 2024. Historic Rock Ford will have a limited number of signed copies available for purchase. This presentation is part of the museums Lafayette Lecture Series and will be held on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. Please note that, due to rental event turnover, this area will open to guests at 1:45 p.m. The ticket includes admission to the Snyder Gallery and Focus Exhibit 1825: Lafayette in Lancaster. The Snyder Gallery is located on the second floor of the Rock Ford Barn. It is recommended that guests visit the Gallery prior to the lecture as this area closes at 4 p.m. Admission will be $10. Tickets may be purchased at www.HistoricRockFord.org/special-events. Historic Rock Ford, located at 881 Rock Ford Road, Lancaster, Pa., is comprised of the General Edward Hand Mansion and the John J. Snyder Jr. Gallery. It is owned and operated by the Rock Ford Foundation, a private, not-for-profit corporation.
