Mauricetown Antiques Show Scheduled For March 5 And 6
March 04, 2022
After 47 continuous years of an antiques show being offered in the Mauricetown Fire Hall, it took a pandemic to shut it down. But now this beloved institution on the South Jersey antique circuit is back for its 48th annual antiques show, set for Saturday and Sunday, March 5 and 6. Longtime antiques dealer Carl von Rhine has been coordinating the show for the fire company for over a decade and has participated in the show for 40 years. Finding 40 quality dealers to fill the two rooms available is never a problem either. I try to keep the show eclectic with something to appeal to every collector, says von Rhine. Its not all furniture or jewelry or glass. This show is dealer friendly and customer friendly. Once the March show is over, von Rhine begins preparations for another show, which is held annually the first weekend in December. Mauricetown is a quaint maritime village that enjoyed an economic boom in the 19th century due to its location on the Maurice River, six miles from the Delaware Bay. Sea captains lived there, and ships were constructed in its shipyards. Oystering was another major source of local employment. Most of the buildings in the town date to between 1815 and 1930. The historic district was added to the National Register for Historic Places in 2018. Oysters remain popular. Members of the fire company, which benefits from all proceeds of the show, man a snack bar that, in addition to the usual hot dogs and burgers, offers fried oyster platters, clam chowder, and homemade soups. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 5 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 6. Admission will be $5. The fire company is located at 9544 Noble St. Mauricetown, N.J., is eight miles south of Millville, just off Route 47.
