Memorial Day At Historic Rock Ford
January 01, 1970
This Memorial Day, Historic Rock Ford invites visitors to enjoy family-friendly patriotic activities, living historians, and self-guided tours of the Hand Mansion and Snyder Gallery, including the 2026 focus exhibit Lancasters Revolutionaries. The historic site will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 25. Advance recommendation is recommended, but tickets may also be purchased at the door. Admission is $12 for adults and $6 for youths ages 6 to 17 and can be purchased in advance by visiting www.historicrockford.org/special-events. Special guests currently attending include Ken Reinhard, Ye Olde Colonial Angler of 1770, who specializes in the tackle and traditions of fly fishermen of Colonial Times. His expertise includes making angle rods from whole cane, fly lines made from braided horse tail and hook making from needles and nails. He demonstrates the art of flytying using the in-hand method, without the use of a vise. Reinhards presentations are well known throughout the Mid-Atlantic states, including Colonial Williamsburg. Another presenter will be Daniel J. Sieh, a public historian with more than 12 years of experience working with historical museums throughout the East Coast. Previously, Sieh has worked at Colonial Williamsburg and later at Claude Moore Colonial Farm as one of its historical interpreters. He graduated with a history degree from the College of William and Mary in 2016 and has a masters degree from American University. His talk at 2 p.m. will be titled After the Fashion of His Country: Asians and Asia in the 18th Century. Asia was known for centuries in Europe, and the British were keen to profit off the exotic goods through commerce. This trade was far from a one-sided exchange; it was a dialogue between two very distinct cultures. Goods, ideas and people flowed through trade routes established by the British East India Company and reached as far as the then 13 Colonies. Plus, live fife and drum music by Keystone Mascots Fife & Drum Corps will be played. Historic Rock Ford is located at 881 Rock Ford Road, Lancaster, Pa., and is comprised of the General Edward Hand Mansion and the John J. Snyder, Jr. Gallery. It is owned and operated by the Rock Ford Foundation, a private, not-for-profit corporation. To learn more, call 717-392-7223.
