Online-Only Decorative Arts Auction Set For Pook & Pook On March 18

Jack Frost may have taken a vacation this winter on the East Coast, but everyone at Pook & Pook is still eager to move on to a busy auction-filled spring. Bidders will surely want to come out of hibernation for another one of the auction houses ever popular Online Only Decorative Art auctions, filled with all the goodies antique enthusiasts have come to expect. It has been two months since their last auction, but on Wednesday, March 18, at 9 a.m., 800 lots will cross the virtual auction block. As is usual with Pook & Pooks decorative arts sales, Marchs sale is sure to suit a variety of tastes and budgets, with all bidding online on Bidsquare and Invaluable. From unusual Americana to elegant International decorative arts, the folks at Pook & Pook have been busy squirreling away hundreds of interesting and unique items to fill and adorn bidders homes this spring. The sale kicks off with all manner of decorative arts, including weathervanes, metalware, gameboards, tramp art, dresser boxes, toleware, Staffordshire, glass, baskets, pottery, porcelain, wood carvings, sewing accessories, decoys, chalkware, pearlware, canes, mocha, ironware, advertising, and so much more. Folk art accessories are scattered throughout the sale, including pieces of stoneware, redware, fraktur, etc. A miniature Pennsylvania redware plate from the 1800s with slip flower decoration (est. $200-$300) will compete for bidders attentions, as will a stoneware canteen (est. $200-$300), alongside many other surprises. A Mickey Mantle signed jersey (est. $300-$500) will have sports fans cheering, as will several lots of trading cards, each estimated at $200-$300. Examples of porcelain and pottery by Stahl, Seagreaves, Bennington, Rockingham, Tucker, etc. can be found throughout the day. Clocks, looking glasses, lamps, lanterns, Christmas decorations, etc. will all make their way across two cyberspace bidding platforms. A large assortment of textiles, including dozens of quilts, Jacquard coverlets, needleworks, samplers, wool embroideries, and rugs, is sure to draw some strong interest. A sizeable selection of silver will be sold, including tea services, serving dishes, flatware, utensils, candelabra, and more in various sizes, shapes, and patterns. One special silver lot in the sale is a rare Scofield Pantheon pattern sterling silver tea service together with a silver plated tray (est. $1,400-$1,600). Rounding out the decorative accessories category is a sprinkling of pieces from across the pond, including an English repousse silver hot water kettle, bearing the touchmark of Robert Garrard (est. $800-$1,000), as well as a variety of objects from Japan and China. All manner of fine art items are represented in this sale, with dozens of oil-on-canvas landscapes and portraits. Some of the listed artists featured include Carl Weber, Thomas Craig, Adolph Pannash, Philip Chillman, George Newman, Andrew Wyeth, Marc Chagall, Carolyn Wyeth, Adrian Martinez, Lillian Harpel, and Arnold Todd. These can be found alongside more folksy art items including silkscreens, fraktur, and more by artists including David Ellinger, the Blousy Angel Artist, and more. Of course, a large selection of furniture will also feature in this sale, with many examples on offer including sideboards, bookcases, chairs, tall case clocks, dower chests, stands, tables, sofas, childrens furniture, benches, blanket chests, settees, desks, game tables, cupboards, ottomans, pie safes, and many other sturdy handmade pieces that have withstood hundreds of years of use. Several German pieces of furniture will also find their way under the auctioneers gavel, including a carved oak cabinet, a late 19th-century mahogany buffet, table, bookcase, and vitrine. In addition to the sleighs, gameboards, and kids furniture found throughout the day, a large selection of childrens items, including toys, dolls, marbles, teddy bears, trucks, cars, still banks and more, will round out the auction day. Toy makers featured include Hubley, Lionel, Danbury, and Arcade. Also included will be a selection of more modern collectable toys such as TV and movie personality figures.
