PA Auction Center Sells Contents Of Jack Allen Museum
Minneapolis-Moline Tractor Brings $85,000
October 16, 2020
The PA Auction Center held a two-day auction Sept. 11 and 12 at the Jack Allen Museum, located in Southampton, N.J. The country living museum was the home to many unique vintage and antique items, noteably farm machinery. Between two online platforms and the live crowd, there were 595 registered bidders. Among the highlights was an antique Minneapolis-Moline UDLX tractor, which realized $85,000. The early closed-cab concept farm tractor was developed in 1938. Entry to the cabin was through a large rear door. The bodywork was painted in what was termed prairie-gold, a bright yellowish-gold. The production of this particular model stopped in 1941 and was never made in large numbers, due to both low sales and the Depression. It was a very expensive tractor in its day. A Minneapolis-Moline U open cab tractor sold for $42,000. A 1937 Blue Bird tractor realized $6,500, a Rolling Gulf grease cart went for $3,200, and a refurbished Erie Meter Systems gas pump sold for $2,500. A Wayne gas pump sold for $2,400, a 1963 Bunqartz tractor model #13514, $2,250, and a Gibson tractor brought $2,100. The PA Auction Center is based in Quarryville, Pa.
