Popular Play Returns To Historic Rock Ford One-Act Play, Persuasion, Was Inspired By Scenes From Jane Austens Novel

October 31, 2025

After an enthusiastic first run with soldout performances in 2024, Persuasion will return to the rooms of the General Hand Mansion on Fridays, Nov. 14 and 21, and Saturdays, Nov. 15 and 22, at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with matinees on Sundays, Nov. 16 and 23, at 3 p.m. This one-act play, inspired by scenes from Jane Austens novel, was adapted by Samuel Slaymaker. This original play is intended to provide audiences with the flavor of Austens work and wit within the setting of a true Georgian mansion. The Actors School is the new creative team for this years production. Persuasion relates the story of Anne Elliot, an aristocratic young lady who declines marrying Captain Frederick Wentworth at a youthful age even though she deeply loves him. After a period of seven years, Anne and Wentworth meet again and must resolve their feelings through a series of encounters that are highlighted in the play. Performances are limited to 15 guests. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at www.historicrockford.org/special-events. Each performance will be approximately an hour with scenes taking place in each of the rooms on the main floor and central hallway of the General Hand Mansion at Historic Rock Ford. Please bear in mind that this production is not handicapped-accessible. Guests will be standing during the performance and following the characters from room to room. Historic Rock Ford, located at 881 Rock Ford Road, Lancaster, Pa., is comprised of the General Edward Hand Mansion and the John J. Snyder, Jr. Gallery of Early Lancaster County Decorative Arts. It is owned and operated by the Rock Ford Foundation, a private, not-for-profit corporation.
