Portrait Miniature Expert Elle Shushan To Speak At Locati LLC
Lecture To Be Held Oct. 7
September 29, 2023
The well-known authority of antique portrait miniatures Elle Shushan will give a short lecture on the subject on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at Locati LLC in Pineville, Pa. (central Bucks County). The idea of Shushan coming to the auction house was inspired by a large collection of antique portrait miniatures that Locati LLC is selling in its October auction. We thought it would be great to have a lecture tied to this wonderful collection, said co-owner Michael Locati. We think it will be exciting for people to learn about this fascinating subject from a recognized expert and also have the opportunity to bid on pieces in the sale, continued Locati. Shushan has served on the faculty of the Sothebys Institute of Art and the Winterthur Museum Graduate Program in Material Culture. She has lectured throughout the United States at major institutions including the Delaware Art Museum, The Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, Colonial Williamsburg, and many others. As a dealer in portrait miniatures, her clients have included The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C.; The Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Throughout her career, she has written books and scholarly articles on the subject, including the books The Way Sisters: Miniaturists of the Early Republic and Lovers Eyes: Eye Miniatures from the Skier Collection. Locatis October auction will include over 50 lots of portraits that mostly date to the 18th and early 19th centuries. Most of the portraits feature children, and the lecture will be centered on that aspect. Online bidding for Locati LLCs auction will begin on Sunday, Oct. 1, and the live auction will take place Sunday, Oct. 15 at noon. Locati LLC is located at 761 Durham Road, Pineville, Pa. (GPS: Furlong 18925). Reservations will be required for the lecture, as parking space is limited. Call 215-619-2973 to reserve a seat or to inquire about the talk. Wine and light refreshments will be served.
