Rare Abner And Aaron Zook (1952) Conestoga Wagon With Team Of Six Horses Sells For $11,000

January 01, 1970

Manheim, Pa., auctioneers Luke and Clarke Witman held a multi-consignor sale on March 7. Over 300 registered bidders attended, and the following are just a few of the items sold and prices realized. Prices include a 10-percent buyers premium. An unsual Abner Zook three-dimensional diorama of a large ship dated 1978 sold for $19,800. A bit more unusual was a collaborative Abner and Aaron Zook wooden carved and painted Conestoga wagon pulled by a team of six horses, dated 1952, selling for $11,000. Another Conestoga wagon, but made by Abners son, Joel Zook, sold for $1,100. A duck decoy by Steve and Lem Ward brought $6,325; a double-sided Coca-Cola sign, $2,750; a Joseph Lehn water bucket, $2,100; and a string of antique sleigh bells sold for $600. Signed regional tools often command a premium. A goose wing ax stamped D. Lichey went for $1,800. Several early pressed steel toy trucks also sold. A Buddy L truck sold for $880, and another example, $500. The photos and captions tell more of the story. To learn more, visit www.witmanauctioneers.com.
