Among the expected top lots in this sale is a copy of Captain America Comics #1. Published by Timely Comics, in March 1941, it includes the debut appearances of Captain America, the Red Skull, and Bucky. Considered one of the ten most valuable comic books today, currently ranking #7 on Overstreets list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics, the cover art was by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby showing Captain America punching Hitler. The timing of this illustration/comic appeared several months before the U.S. would enter WWII. Published in 1940, Human Torch #2 (#1) from Timely Comics features WWII cover art by Alex Schomburg. It contains the first appearance of Toro, one of the first mutant superheroes, along with the origins of both the Human Torch and Sub-Mariner. The Falcon and the Fiery Mask both make their last appearances. This issue is currently tied for #45 on Overstreets list of Top 100 Golden Age Comics. Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Marvel Comics in 1963 featuring cover artwork by Steve Ditko re-tells Spider-Mans origins, has the first Fantastic Four crossover, and includes the debut appearances of J. Jonah Jameson, John Jameson, and the Chameleon. Currently #7 on Overstreets list of Top 50 Silver Age Comics, the copy in the sale is CGC-graded 5.5. Weird Tales of the Future #8, published by Aragon Publications in 1953, was the final issue of the title and illustrated with a classic ripped-out-heart horror cover by Bernard Baily. It is evaluated at VF+ 8.5 white pages, is the only copy in 8.5 condition, and also the highest grade from CGC. Haunt of Fear #15 (#1) was published by E.C. Comics in 1950 and is the first issue of the title, formerly known as Gunfighter. It features the story, cover, and art by Johnny Craig. This title is listed as scarce by Overstreet and is currently the #9 book on Overstreets Top Ten Horror Comics list. We are pleased to bring to market the rare collectionof Golden Age and Pre-Code Horror comics from the noted bibliophile Stephen Farber. Many of these comics have not surfaced in decades, several of which having receivedthe highest grades from CGC.
