Sellers Market For Zook Dioramas

Witman Sells Abner Zook Woodland Deer Scene For $20,900

Witman Auctioneers Inc., of Manheim, Pa., conducted an auction on Feb. 6 at Encks Banquet Center, located at 1461 Lancaster Road in Manheim. Material came from multiple consignors and featured regional folk art and collectibles. An Abner Zook (1921-2010) three-dimensional diorama depicting a woodland scene with deer sold for $20,900. The Zook market continues to be strong, and because of that more works are coming onto the auction market. A Sterling flatware set brough $2,200; a U.S. hand crank meat slicing machine, $3,630; and a Dan Strawser wood carved eagle went for $525. An antique John Hart (Lancaster, Pa.) glass bottle sold for $2,200, and a contemporary Bill Rank theorem went for $330. Reinholds, Pa., potter Ned Foltz is an active artist whose work has a large following, and some of his works were sold, as well: a hand-built figure of a goat with a rider sold for $1,760, and a ring vase sold for $700.
