Spring Madison/Bouckville Slated For May 31 To June 2
May 17, 2024
Madison and Bouckville are two small villages between Syracuse and Hamilton, N.Y., and will both become thriving metropolises for the weekend of Friday, May 31, to Sunday, June 2, to all who love antiques and early collectibles. Attracting about 2,000 exhibiting antiques dealers and many thousands of shoppers, the main street, which is Route 20 connecting the two tiny towns, will be reduced to a 15 mile-per-hour speed zone. Drivers look for the most convenient parking for the next field they next want to shop. In fact, the driving lanes of the road are reduced for all the pedestrian traffic along the road as well. This spring show features a dozen show fields. All fields have free admission, and the local tourist board claims about 10,000 shoppers will arrive for the shopping spree. There is plenty of parking for the early birds, some of which is charged and some free of charge. Food service is available on most show fields. Northern New York State has been well known as a source for antiques, especially American made 18th- and 19th-century furniture, textiles and household accessories. This rich history creates an environment at this market and again from Aug. 12 to 18 when the main Madison/Bouckville event takes place. Over the years, names have changed, owners have retired and sold to other show managers, but the fields continue to thrive as both Spring and Summer Madison/Bouckville remain two of the countrys premier opportunities for finding great early American treasures. Among the larger show fields, Cider House Antiques has been adding several features since ownership changed, to include free parking, a large campground, and very good food service. The Out Front Show is across the road and among the markets with a permanent building onsite, giving weather protection for the exhibitors. The East Expo is only two booths deep from the street and about a quarter mile long with several multi-dealer tents. Butternut Hill will be under new management. Tim Fonda and his family created an area for camping and RVs. The Boyce family will again be doing double duty with their Quaker Acres show field at the east end and shop at the west end and host roughly 150 exhibitors. If arriving from the east, this is one of the first fields with good access to parking. Thursday, May 30, is setup day for the dealers, with most fields allowing shoppers to begin to wander as the exhibitors unload their collections. Hotels for visitors and dealers are in Utica and Syracuse, as well as several in nearby Hamilton. This country crossroads of Route 20 and 12B is about 25 miles south of Syracuse and southwest of Utica. Contact information is listed for each show fields at www.madison-bouckville.com.
