Super Bowl Weekend Collectors Gathering For Pinback And Ephemera Set For Titusville, N.J.
American Political Items Collectors (APIC) Regional Chapter To Hold Show On Feb. 11
January 20, 2023
Collectors of pinback buttons, badges, ribbons, paper and related ephemera will meet in Titusville, N.J., on Saturday, Feb. 11, to sell, trade and display memorabilia from throughout the centuries. This annual gathering is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Union Fire Co. Banquet Hall at 1396 River Road (Route 29), alongside the Delaware River. Ample free parking is available. Attendees can expect to see a wide variety of items, ranging from political campaign buttons and ribbons for former presidents such as Abraham Lincoln, Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, to buttons featuring sports teams and stars, TV personalities, civil rights icons, military heroes, advertising and comic characters, and more. The gathering will be hosted by the local chapter of the American Political Items Collectors (APIC), a national nonprofit hobbyist association dedicated to preserving political history. Our meetings offer a great opportunity for young and old alike to see and learn about real artifacts used by political candidates, protesters through the ages, sports teams, advertising agencies and more, said Tony Lee, a Titusville resident and president of APICs Big Apple Chapter. Most of these items were created for a short-term use, like an election or a march, and werent designed to survive beyond that event. But many did, and perhaps because of their ephemeral nature, they became prized collectibles. Admission to the event will be $3 for each adult. Any child 12 years or younger will enter free of charge. To encourage a lifelong love of collecting, each child will receive assorted pinback buttons, free of charge, to start his or her own collection. Free appraisals will be offered for items brought in by the public. The public may also bring items for the annual auction, with a commission rate of 10 percent of the overall sale for appropriate items.
