Three-Day Sale On-Tap For Hess Auction Group

Conestoga Auction (a division of Hess Auction Group) is pleased to announce its three-day Antiques, Americana, and Advertising auction taking place on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Sept. 9, 10, and 11. The first day will consist of the Civil War artifact and weapons collection of Craig and Cynthia Wertz, of Gordonville, Pa., along with a selection of antique tools, early Moravian hardware from the family of Bill Du Pont and signed Pennsylvania broad and goosewing axes. Highlights include a Confederate Kerrs Revolver, Maynard carbine; a Civil War Corps badge quilt; axes signed by Lichty, Stoudt, Sener and Heidt; and an 18th-century exterior door with Moravian hardware. The second day will feature Americana and many fine antiques, including Soap Hollow and paint-decorated furniture; Mid-Atlantic stoneware; Schimmel carvings; early primitives; Pennsylvania tall case clocks; quilts and textiles; oil paintings; rugs; and holiday items. Highlights include a documented John Sala chest of drawers featured in Charles Mullers book on Soap Hollow Furniture; a Joel Palmer Fulton County blanket chest; a large Schimmel eaglet; impressive freehand-decorated eight-gallon Samuel Booker Louisville, Ky., stoneware crock; a four-gallon freehand-decorated Western Pennsylvania stoneware churn with a rare freehand-decorated collar; a fine Star of Bethlehem quilt; and an original Hattie Brunner watercolor painting. The third day is devoted to country store advertising, signs, fixtures and displays that will dazzle the eye. Items from the collections of Linda and the late Ed Althouse of Strasburg, Pa., and Russell and Darlene Snyder of Hagerstown, Md., are featured throughout the session. Highlights include a large Smaltz painted Dr. Daniels Veterinary wood sign, a round 6-foot double-sided porcelain Flying A gas sign, fine salesmans sample cigar box label books, a Humphreys veterinary cabinet, an Eshelman Feed sign from a well-known Lancaster County mill, an excellent country store seed counter, a rare 1863 patent model handy oiler, a countertop revolving nut and bolt bin, spool cotton and Arrow collar displays, a rare International Stock Food Dan Patch pedal car in the original paint, and arcade coin-op games and vending machines.
