Valley Forge Celebrates The French Alliance Lecture To Be Held May 3
April 24, 2026
On Sunday, May 3, Historic Rock Fords America250 Lecture Series presents Valley Forge Celebrates the French Alliance by Nancy K. Loane, Ed.D. On May 6, 1778, the Valley Forge encampment celebrated the alliance between France and the United States of America. Important in supplying vital military and financial aid to the new country, the alliance had just been ratified. Now, Washingtons soldiers could hope that the war would soon be over, the Continental Army would disband, and they would go home. This presentation will begin at 2 p.m. in the Langmuir Education Room located on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn located at 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster, Pa. Prior to the lecture, attendees may visit the Snyder Gallery and our 2026 Focus Exhibit. The Snyder Gallery closes at 4 p.m. An accomplished speaker, Dr. Loane has given over 250 presentations throughout the country, all focusing on the experiences of the women and soldiers at Valley Forge and the myths and stories associated with the encampment. She is a formal seasonal ranger at Valley Forge National Park, as well as the author of the award-winning book Following the Drum: Women at the Valley Forge Encampment. General admission tickets are $10 and may be purchased at www.HistoricRockFord.org/special-events.
