Vintage Technology Booming Again In Kutztown
By Karl Pass - June 05, 2026
While modern electronics become increasingly disposable, one local business is helping preserve the golden age of technology, and business is booming because of it. Col. John Tyminski, who goes by John T, is the owner of Kutztown Radio. Along with his expert technicians, he has seen an increase in demand for the repair, restoration, and sales of antique radios, vintage television sets, hi-fi stereo systems, record players, tube electronics, and classic audio equipment. Were seeing people reconnect with the craftsmanship and sound these old machines had, said John T. Many younger people are discovering tube radios and vintage stereo systems for the first time, while longtime collectors are restoring pieces theyve had sitting for decades. The renewed interest comes as John T helped organize the Delaware Valley Historic Radio Club Antique Radio and Vintage Electronics Swap Meet and Auction at Renningers Antiques and Farmers Market in Kutztown, Pa. The event was held May 8 and 9 and, despite the weather, had over 200 vendors and was deemed a successful show. It attracted collectors, hobbyists, and restorers, from multiple states. Serving as auctioneer for the auction portion of the event, John T says the meet has become one of the regions premier gatherings for vintage technology enthusiasts. The auction and show featured antique radios, broadcast equipment, vacuum tubes, vinyl records, phonographs, vintage televisions, electronic parts, and historic technology collectibles dating back nearly 100 years. In addition to the radio club events, Kutztown Radio has also been building momentum with its increasingly popular record shows held at Renningers in Kutztown. The next Kutztown Radio Record Show is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, and is expected to feature vendors offering LPs, 45s, 78s, CDs, tapes, vintage stereo gear, record players, turntables, and music memorabilia. Organizers say the growing popularity of both vintage electronics and vinyl records reflects a broader cultural shift toward nostalgia and appreciation for analog sound and craftsmanship. The fall edition of the Antique Radio & Vintage Electronics Swap Meet and Auction will take place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 and 19, at Renningers in Kutztown.
