Witman Auctioneers Inc., of Manheim, Pa., held an auction on Jan. 5 for the Sarah Stowell estate at 11 South Stoner Ave., Shiremanstown, Pa. The following prices were realized and are a good general education for any auction market follower. The photos and captions tell the story. A small wallpaper-covered lift-lid chest sold for $1,595; a 64-piece sterling moonbeam flatware set, $1,018; and a Seth Thomas wall clock, $990. A ladies Illinois pocket watch and chain realized $605; a ladies leather naval overcoat, $440; and a 1921 Peace silver dollar, $275. Old Class rings sold for between $187 and $198 each, and a group of old childrens books brought $231. A Lefever side-by-side shotgun sold for $550, and a Remington UMC 22 Cal. rifle, $330.
